How to Extend the Life of a Heat Treatment Belt

Field-proven maintenance practices that extend the service life of continuous heat treatment belts.

Get the specification right the first time

The single biggest driver of belt life is correct specification — the right grade, wire diameter, weave and drive for your furnace atmosphere and load. Under-specified belts fail early; over-specified belts waste money.

Manage thermal cycling

Where possible, minimise thermal cycling. Continuous operation at temperature is easier on a belt than repeated heat-and-cool cycles.

Inspect regularly

Schedule inspection at every planned shutdown — cross-rod wear, edge damage, weld integrity. Small repairs prevent large failures.

Repair, don't replace

A well-built belt is repairable. Field-braze a damaged section, replace worn cross-rods, re-tension the belt. Full replacement is a last resort, not a first response.
